The Memphis police officer accused of rape has been reprimanded twice for violating department policy

Memphis, Tennessee (WMC) – Documents show that a police officer facing rape and kidnapping charges was suspended twice during his tenure at the Memphis Police Department for violating departmental policies.
Police Officer Travis Pride, 31, joined MPD in July 2018. In December of the same year, he was condemned for losing the PDA issued by the department. Pride was suspended for one day without payment.
In October 2020, documents showed that Pride lost a receipt printer and failed to activate his body camera in response to a crash. He was suspended for three days for these two violations.
According to Pride’s personnel file, at the hearing regarding the second incident, his lieutenant said, “Pride is an excellent and productive member of Charlie Shift.”
On Wednesday, a woman reported that her Lyft driver took her to his apartment and raped her, after which Pride was arrested.
Investigators said that he was reportedly working as a Lyft driver when he was off work, but his second job was not authorized by the MPD as required by departmental policy.
